The Native Olympia Oyster Collaborative

Did you know that there is one native oyster species (Ostrea lurida) on the West Coast of North America? Or that it’s populations were driven to the brink of extinction in some estuaries, particualrly in California?

The Native Olympia Oyster Collaborative (NOOC), is an international network of scientists, restoration practitioners, educators, aquaculturists, and Indigenous communities that are working together to restore populations of native oysters (Ostrea lurida) and the critical coastal habitat that they create.

Learn more about restoration and recovery efforts through the NOOC storymap and our recent synthesis of all of the current and historic restoration projects that have been conducted to support native oysters throughout it’s range.
